Back from check up

Allright keeping you all posted.
We just returned from the Sint Lucas Andreas hospital. Rena was checked extensively and everything looked good and healthy on the outside. The cardiology test of the baby and Rena's womb looked good. When we met the geneacologist afterward he explained that generally the babies are born within one week afterwards. Then they performed a scan of the womb. The geneacologist then found that there was too little fluid present inside the womb. This is a sign that the placenta is getting exhausted. Within two to three days that would be threatening for the baby. The dokter then decided to stimulate the contractions as soon as possible. Rena was stripped again by the gyneacologist. This was quite hurtful for her. The gyneacologist said that perhaps this action would ripen the mouth of the womb. At that moment such was not yet the case.
Well, we were then allowed to go home and had to get everything ready, because tomorrow morning we would have to call the hospital at 06:15 hrs to confirm Rena's coming, because we had to report at the hospital at 07:00 hrs. We had to call first to check whether a bed would be available, this in case another emergency took priority and no bed would be available.
According to the gyneacologist they would start inducing the contractions immediately, unless the mout of the womb was not yet ripe enough. If all goes well then the baby will be born by tomorrow evening.
However, if the mouth of the womb was not yet ripe, then they would have to apply substances to ensure ripenss. This takes 24 hours. In that case the baby will be born on Friday.
That is the status at this momen, we'll keep you all posted. Keep your fingers crossed for us.

Just the latest developments regarding Junior. Up until this moment the two 'stripping' sessions did not yield any result and they made an appointment for us with the emergency clinic of Sint Lucas Andreas Hospital with the gyneacologist there.
Tomorrow, Monday, afternoon at 12:45hrs we have to report there for further check ups and monitoring. Rena and I are now really getting pretty impatient.

Today the second 'stripping'

Well, we have survived the weekend. Last Saturday we went to Het Geboortehuis, the place for checkup by the midwife. Rena had to be 'stripped'. So they would check her womb and would try to loosen up things. Perhaps the birth could be stimulated. The treatment hurt Rena a little and she lost a little blood. On Saturday evening and on Sunday we waithed, but besides a little loss of blood nothing happened. On Sunday Rena felt a somewhat listless, so we did not go to Pasar Jembatan (across the street of our house) where Stichting de Brug was celebrating their 10th anniversary of reunions of Eurasians (Dutch East Indies descendants).
Today, Monday, the midwife (a male this time) came by our house to give Rena another 'stripping' treatment. Now we're just awaiting events to come. If the day after tomorrow, Wednesday, still nothing has happened, then Rena must report at the hospital, where she will be supervised by the gyneacologist. Rena will then be 42 weeks pregnant. As of the 42nd week the placenta becomes smaller and contains less nurishment for the baby, therefore Rena must be monitored closely.
Well, we're awaiting the events to come with great patience.

Some news again at last!

It has been quite a while since I wrote something here. There are a few reasons why I did not do that.
The past few months have been very exciting and busy for us, but besides that there also were a few personal things happening through which sometimes there was no time and sometimes I was not in the mood for writing.
I shall try to tell you briefly about all the things that happened. The pregnancy developed well but there were so many things happening around us and we had so many things to do. We had to gather the necessary stuff for the baby within our limited means and we frequently worried about it. In the end it all came together wll, also through all kinds of help from our friends who helped us. My daughter Patricia regularly was in touch with us and was very interested in everything that happened. My son Stanley called every month to show his interest.
Baby grew well in Rena's tummy and in the evening she kept herself entertained with the movements of junior. During the 20 weeks scan the doctor told us that it was going to be a boy, and we had ample time to think up boys names. A whole range of names came by and a few times we mad a choice, but each time it changed again. But now, finally, we have made our definitive choice which we shall not change again (unless ofcourse it appears to be a girl!). We shall announce the chosen names at the moment after the birth.
As said earlier, junior's development went well. Rena took part in a yoga course for pregnant women and her tummy became bigger and bigger.
Since a few of our friends had a pregnancy of less than 40 weeks, Rena thought that she would give birth at the end of June or beginning of July. We counted the weeks. Unfortunately, ending June came and went and still no sight of baby. Then we waited for 18th of June, the official calculated date of birth according to the gyneacologist! Meanwhile we had bought a pram and even an nice bed for junior, complete with mosquito net, purchased from the internet market Marktplaats. Our house is very small, and with a lot of effort we managed to place juniors bed in it. We had to reorganize everything. Now there is jus a little space to walk between junior's bed and ours, and even our clothescabinets fit in it!
The pram is still in folded condition in another little room, such that we can still walk to the fridge and supply cabinet. Our former dining table we had to put in the attic because there was no space for it. Everything in our house had to find a place in it.
For quite some time we have registered at Woningnet for a new house, but we haven't had any offers yet for another home. Well, we keep our spirits up!
Over the past four weeks Rena and I regularly take a walk in the woods behind our house to give junior a chance to come out more easily.
The 18th of July came and went and carrying junior around in her tummy became more and more heavy for Rena. That day, Rena's pregnancy was precisely 40 weeks old, we visited the midwife again. She told us that, according to statistics, a firstborn usually is given birth 5 days after 40 weeks. Unfortunately it was not so in our case when nothing happened on 23rd July.
Patricia had her birthday on 24th July, and her hope that junior would be born on the same day vanished also. Yesterday, 25th July we met the midwife again and she said that on Saturday 28th July we would have to come by if still nothing had happened. She would then try to induce contractions by 'stripping' Rena. She would then manyally feel where junior is located and perhaps that exercise would start the contractions. If that doesn't work, then Rena would have to come again on 30th July for a repeat. If that also fails, then Rena must go to the hospital Sint Lucas Andreas, Amsterdam, on 1st of August. There she will come under direction of the gyneacologist who shall induce the contractions. Rena will then have to give birth in the hospital.
Well, that is the status at this moment. Now you all know as much as we do and you can all help hope for the best.
We are so happy that people regularly call us to inform about the status. Everyone seems to be concerned and interested how Rena and the baby are doing. Hasan, the husband of Nat6alia a good friend of ours, calls us almost every day to find out how things are. Very sweet! Also Patricia called us every few days during the past two weeks, and so did friends of ours from the church.
Everyone, thank you so much for your interest! We will inform you immediately when it happens.

Love from Rena and I

Today, 2nd March 2007, Rena is 20 weeks pregnant. I'll make a photo for the album on the Babybook website later on.

The day before yesterday, 28th February, we went to Prenataal in Amsterdam to have a 20-weeks scan made. It appeared that we could have a video made of the scan. We did that and (against payment of 10 Euros) they gave us a DVD with the scan afterwards. I transferred it so I could place it on our Babybook website, and you can find it here in the Babybook. For now, the narration I made, is only available in Dutch.
