Greetings and love,
The proud parents Rena & Roderick
Back from check up
Allright keeping you all posted.
We just returned from the Sint Lucas Andreas hospital. Rena was checked extensively and everything looked good and healthy on the outside. The cardiology test of the baby and Rena's womb looked good. When we met the geneacologist afterward he explained that generally the babies are born within one week afterwards. Then they performed a scan of the womb. The geneacologist then found that there was too little fluid present inside the womb. This is a sign that the placenta is getting exhausted. Within two to three days that would be threatening for the baby. The dokter then decided to stimulate the contractions as soon as possible. Rena was stripped again by the gyneacologist. This was quite hurtful for her. The gyneacologist said that perhaps this action would ripen the mouth of the womb. At that moment such was not yet the case.
Well, we were then allowed to go home and had to get everything ready, because tomorrow morning we would have to call the hospital at 06:15 hrs to confirm Rena's coming, because we had to report at the hospital at 07:00 hrs. We had to call first to check whether a bed would be available, this in case another emergency took priority and no bed would be available.
According to the gyneacologist they would start inducing the contractions immediately, unless the mout of the womb was not yet ripe enough. If all goes well then the baby will be born by tomorrow evening.
However, if the mouth of the womb was not yet ripe, then they would have to apply substances to ensure ripenss. This takes 24 hours. In that case the baby will be born on Friday.
That is the status at this momen, we'll keep you all posted. Keep your fingers crossed for us.
Love from,
Roderick and Rena
Latest news
Just the latest developments regarding Junior. Up until this moment the two 'stripping' sessions did not yield any result and they made an appointment for us with the emergency clinic of Sint Lucas Andreas Hospital with the gyneacologist there.
Tomorrow, Monday, afternoon at 12:45hrs we have to report there for further check ups and monitoring. Rena and I are now really getting pretty impatient.
Regards and love,
Roderick
Today the second 'stripping'
Well, we have survived the weekend. Last Saturday we went to Het Geboortehuis, the place for checkup by the midwife. Rena had to be 'stripped'. So they would check her womb and would try to loosen up things. Perhaps the birth could be stimulated. The treatment hurt Rena a little and she lost a little blood. On Saturday evening and on Sunday we waithed, but besides a little loss of blood nothing happened. On Sunday Rena felt a somewhat listless, so we did not go to Pasar Jembatan (across the street of our house) where Stichting de Brug was celebrating their 10th anniversary of reunions of Eurasians (Dutch East Indies descendants).
Today, Monday, the midwife (a male this time) came by our house to give Rena another 'stripping' treatment. Now we're just awaiting events to come. If the day after tomorrow, Wednesday, still nothing has happened, then Rena must report at the hospital, where she will be supervised by the gyneacologist. Rena will then be 42 weeks pregnant. As of the 42nd week the placenta becomes smaller and contains less nurishment for the baby, therefore Rena must be monitored closely.
Well, we're awaiting the events to come with great patience.
Taking a Walk
OK! For a laugh.
In our babyboek we have placed a Video Clip of one of our walks in the woods this week.
Cheers and love,
Rod & Rena
Some news again at last!
It has been quite a while since I wrote something here. There are a few reasons why I did not do that.
The past few months have been very exciting and busy for us, but besides that there also were a few personal things happening through which sometimes there was no time and sometimes I was not in the mood for writing.
I shall try to tell you briefly about all the things that happened.

20 Weeks Echo Scan
Today, 2nd March 2007, Rena is 20 weeks pregnant. I'll make a photo for the album on the Babybook website later on.
The day before yesterday, 28th February, we went to Prenataal in Amsterdam to have a 20-weeks scan made. It appeared that we could have a video made of the scan. We did that and (against payment of 10 Euros) they gave us a DVD with the scan afterwards. I transferred it so I could place it on our Babybook website, and you can find it here in the Babybook. For now, the narration I made, is only available in Dutch.
Echo scan 3
Today they made a 3rd echo scan.
The fetus is now 5,3cm tall.
